The Gospel in five points

A simple outline you can walk through with anyone.

1. 1

   God is holy, and He made us

   God created every human being in His image and owns us. He is perfectly good and just, and He will judge the world in righteousness.

   “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

2. 2

   We have all sinned

   Every one of us has broken God’s law — in thought, word and deed. Sin separates us from God and deserves His judgment.

   “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

3. 3

   Christ died for sinners and rose again

   Jesus, the eternal Son of God, lived the life we could not live, died on the cross bearing the penalty for sin, and rose bodily on the third day.

   “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

4. 4

   Repent and believe

   Salvation is a free gift — by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. God calls every person to turn from sin and trust in Jesus.

   “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

5. 5

   There is forgiveness — even for abortion

   No sin is too great for the blood of Christ. Mothers, fathers, doctors and bystanders who repent and believe are forgiven, cleansed and made alive.

   “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”

Conversation guide

For conversations with friends, family and strangers.

• Ask before you tell

  Start with honest questions: “What do you think the unborn child is?” “Where do you think we get our sense of right and wrong?” Listen to the answer before you respond.

• Clarify the one question that matters

  Most arguments for abortion assume the unborn is not a human being. Gently bring the conversation back to that question — if the unborn is a human child, nothing else justifies killing him or her.

• Speak to the conscience, then point to Christ

  Abortion is sin because it is the taking of innocent human life, and every one of us has sinned against God in many ways. Do not stop at the law — always go on to the forgiveness offered in Jesus.

• Be ready for the wounded

  In almost every crowd someone has been touched by abortion. Speak truthfully and tenderly: there is complete forgiveness and new life in Christ for mothers, fathers and everyone involved.

• Stay gentle, respectful and safe

  Never argue to win. Keep your voice calm, respect people’s space, follow local laws, and walk away from anyone who becomes hostile.
